BMF prepares to launch the world’s thinnest veseers after FDA approval

Boston Micro Fabrication (BMF), a leader in advanced manufacturing solutions for ultra-high-precision applications, announces its foray into the dental market with the launch of UltraThineer™, the thinnest cosmetic dental face in the world. These innovative 3D printed veneers use micro projection stereolithography (PµSL), a technology that produces custom products three times thinner than traditional ones, significantly reducing the need for preparation by dental professionals.

Normally, the veneers are approximately 0.5 mm thick and their placement often requires extensive dental preparation, which can be uncomfortable for patients. BMF veneers, 3D printed, use a patented technology that employs an innovative three-dimensional printing technique, allowing the rapid photopolymerization of liquid polymer layers by flashes of ultraviolet light with a microscopic resolution. This technology achieves an exceptional combination of resolution, accuracy and precision, according to the company.

Sun Yuchun, deputy director of the Center for Digital Dentistry of the Faculty of Stomatology of the University of Beijing, emphasizes that “the technology of 3D printed zirconium veneers, ultra-thin and resistant, can quickly strengthen and protect the tooth surface without pain, preventing the wear caused by acids and significantly improving the appearance.” In addition, it highlights that “compared to conventional ceramic veneers, the entire tooth reduction process is eliminated.”

Jessica Love, of Capture Dental Arts, a leading provider of cosmetic dental services in the United States, recognizes the potential of this technology for the industry: “The ability to print ceramics with a minimum thickness will be revolutionary. Our current processes can be labor-intensive compared to milled and full-cover zirconia crowns. I look forward to the start of this new technology, which allows you to print intricate and ultra-thin facelets. BMF’s advances and innovation will continue to push the boundaries of dentistry and inspire innovation around the world.”

Currently, the snails require an extensive preparation of the teeth. However, with the selection of ultra-thin zirconia veneers from BMF, dentists will have the possibility to align, remodel or illuminate the teeth in a simple, painless and minimally invasive way.

This product is expected to be available in the spring of 2024, following the final review by the U.S. Food and Drug Administration. UU. (FDA).
